Deepa’s kitchen has fed more homesick newcomers than she can count. Her food & home nights pair a pot of sambar with someone’s grandmother’s miso recipe, and somehow everyone leaves with a new friend.

She mentors too, mostly over chopping boards: visa worries, school admissions, where to find curry leaves in Tokyo. The cooking, she says, is just an excuse to talk.
